The Arts on Sunday festivals sponsored by AFAS, Art for Art’s Sake, continue to be one of my favorite series of events in Winston-Salem. The festivals take place every Sunday in October from 1 to 5 pm. The 500 and 600 blocks of Trade Street, along with a portion of the 200 block of 6th Street is the site for all the action. The streets are lined with artists and craftspeople showing and selling their creations. Many of the shops and galleries in this area are open as well. Then there is live entertainment, a well managed kids area, chalk made available by a couple of the shops, including RAW Retro Art Ware and Studio 7, making it possible for kids to draw and express themselves on that big asphalt canvas.
This is hardly any better way to spend a pleasant autumn Sunday afternoon. Bring your kids, bring the dog, bring your wallets. Do all your holiday shopping this month, thereby supporting local artists and businesses, and then sit back and relax during the all-too-hectic holiday shopping season ahead.
